Bicycle and Pedestrian Collisions Study

A District Department of Transportation (DDOT) report examines three years of accidents involving bicycles and/or pedestrians in the District, based on police reports. There are an average of 260 reported bicycle crashes and 550 pedestrian crashes each year. The report, Bicycle and Pedestrian Collisions in the District of Columbia, 1997-1999, also identifies high-crash intersections and breaks down the three-year sample of crashes by age, time, ward and other factors. DDOT will use the report to improve bicycle and pedestrian safety through engineering, enforcement and education. If you have comments or questions on the report, please send an email.
