Failed Utility Cut
This photo is of a failed utility cut awaiting repair. In an effort to provide District residents and businesses with high-quality service, utility companies have been extending and enhancing their products and services. The District is continually working to coordinate these activities and mitigate any negative effects on the transportation system.

Fiber-Optic Duct Installation
In the case of fiber-optic duct installation, packets of usually 4" PVC pipes, or ducts, are hand-placed in the open trench. Packets can range from one to as many as 20 pipes.

Covering the Cut
Coarser materials are then used to fill the rest of the trench.

Fill Materials are Compacted
Materials are compacted to ensure that the repaired section will not "give" under vehicle weight. A temporary asphalt patch is placed on top of the compacted soil while the utility company tests its installation.

Permanent Repair Preparations
Once the asphalt temporary patch is removed, the area to be repaved is smoothed and prepared for a covering of concrete.

Application of Concrete Base
Before the final asphalt layer is applied, a new concrete base is laid. The concrete layer provides structural support for the new riding surface.

Milling Machine
Once the concrete base is repaired, the fill lane width of cut location is milled.

Completed Permanent Repair
The driving lane is then overlaid with an asphalt spreader, returning the surface to as good, or better condition.
