Porter Street Reconstruction to Require One-Way Traffic
On Friday, December 1, traffic on Porter Street, NW, between 34th Street and Connecticut Avenue, will become one-way eastbound to allow for Porter Street's reconstruction. Westbound traffic, including Metro buses, will be detoured as follows: north on Connecticut Avenue, west on Tilden Street and south on Reno Road to Porter.
The reconstruction will take 12 to 16 months and will involve replacing the concrete base and overlay, replacing or adding new street lights, traffic signals, wheelchair/bicycle ramps, gutters, curbs, and sidewalks. The tree spaces will be re-landscaped, including new sodding, water service will be upgraded to meet city codes, and the existing fire hydrants will be replaced with breakaway-type fire fixtures.
The Advisory Neighborhood Commission has been consulted on this project.
The $2 million contract is with Capitol Paving Corporation.
