Starting this weekend, the District Department of Transportation District will open an additional lane of New York Avenue to provide three inbound lanes for motorists returning to the District on Sunday.
The portable median barrier at the South Dakota Avenue, NE work site will be moved Saturday afternoon. Previously, there were three outbound lanes and two inbound lanes from the middle of Friday afternoon until early Monday morning when the barrier was moved for the Monday morning rush-hour.
Councilmember Carol Schwartz suggested this action to ease evening traffic for returning beachgoers in a discussion with Dan Tangherlini, acting Director of Transportation, at a recent oversight hearing of the Committee on Public Works and the Environment.
