DDOT ACTS TO EASE HOLIDAY TRAVEL
The District Department of Transportation announces the following actions to speed Memorial Day travel in the District.
STREETS AND TRAFFIC LIGHTS ADJUSTED
On Friday, May 25, traffic signals will be switched to the afternoon rush hour pattern at 1 pm instead of 3:30 pm. However, rush hour parking restrictions will not be changed.
On Memorial Day, Monday May 28th, holiday rules will be in effect for traffic signals, parking restrictions and rush hour one-way streets (see attached list of streets that will not have rush hour travel lanes).
ROAD WORK SUSPENDED
Work on major arterial roadways and streets in the Expanded Central Business District will be suspended at 12 noon, Friday, May 25 to speed traffic. Work is permitted to resume under normal conditions on Saturday, May 26th, at 7 am, or as allowed by the traffic management plan filed with the permit.
FUTURE ROAD WORK
DDOT announces that early next month, traffic will be significantly affected by the start of two major long-term bridge replacement projects:
23rd Street Bridges over Virginia Ave and E Street, NW (near the State Dept. and George Washington University). Start: early June; expected completion, June, 2002
Rhode Island Avenue Bridges over North Capitol Street and T Street. Start: early June; expected completion, September 2002. Details will be issued when the work starts.
