The traffic pattern on C Street, NW, 3rd to 6th Streets, behind the Canadian Embassy and the US Court House (E. Barrett Prettyman Court House), will change on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28.
C Street will become one-way eastbound between 3rd Street and the Canadian Embassy (about where 4th Street would be), and angled parking will be introduced. C Street will remain two-way from this point to 6th Street. In addition, Indiana Avenue, between 5th and 6th Streets, will become one-way eastbound.
The changes are scheduled to be implemented this Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting. The work includes removing existing markings and signs, moving meters, placing new markings and signs, and adjusting traffic signals.
The changes have been planned to ease congestion and enhance the availability of parking during these major construction projects: extension of the Prettyman Courthouse at 3rd and C Streets and the building of the Freedom Forum's Newseum at 6th and Pennsylvania Avenue.
All appropriate parties were closely involved with the development of this plan. These included the Canadian Embassy, the US and DC Courts, the US Marshals, the Department of Labor, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Advanced-warning signs were put up April 10th in the area, indicating the forthcoming new traffic patterns on C Street and Indiana Avenue.
No-parking notices will be posted three days before the work begins and offending vehicles will be towed.
