Key Bridge Closed Tuesday Night to Speed Repaving

Weather permitting, Key Bridge will be closed in both directions from 10:00 PM Tuesday night to 5:30 AM Wednesday morning (November 25-26) for the final repaving of M Street from 34th Street to the Bridge as part of the Georgetown Project.

In coordination with Virginia officials, traffic will be detoured as follows: District-bound traffic from Rosslyn, Virginia will be directed to Lynn Street to I-66 to Theodore Roosevelt Bridge; Virginia-bound vehicles (on M Street) will be directed to K Street via 30th Street and over the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge; inbound Canal Road traffic will be detoured via Whitehurst Freeway. Variable Message Signs (VMS) have been stationed at critical points to aid motorists.

The closure will greatly minimize disruption to residents, businesses and commuters by speeding up the final asphalt overlay of M Street. If it rains or is below 35 degrees F, the work will be postponed until weather and traffic conditions are met.

Work on Wisconsin Avenue will resume after the Thanksgiving-to-New Year's moratorium.

The Georgetown Project is the coordinated upgrade of the underground utility infrastructure and streetscape along portions of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, NW in Georgetown. It is a joint effort of Pepco, Verizon, Washington Gas, the D.C. Water and Sewer Authority and the D.C Department of Transportation.
