District Department of Transportation Receives National Award
for Georgetown Project Team
(Washington, DC) Mayor Anthony A. Williams today congratulated the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Executive Management Committee of the Georgetown Project for receiving the Team Excellence Award for Exemplary Partner from the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO).
The Georgetown Project is a $40 million coordinated venture to replace the underground utility infrastructure and upgrade the streetscape along Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, NW, in Georgetown.
"Our team is especially focused on our customers," said Mayor Williams, "so there have been minimal complaints from Georgetown residents or business owners," said Mayor Williams. "By limiting the work to weekday nights and instituting a holiday moratorium between Thanksgiving and New Year's, Georgetown has been and will be kept open for business."
The criteria for the award included leadership, strategic planning, customer focus, process management, and organizational results.
Mayor Williams recognized the following individual members of the Executive Management Committee: Skip Newcomb of Pepco, Clayton Munsey of Washington Gas, David McLaughlin of DC Water and Sewer Authority, Gabor Varsa of Verizon and Ardeshir Nafici of DDOT. He also thanked Dan Tangherlini, Director of DDOT, and Councilmember Jack Evans for their continued leadership and support of the Georgetown Project.
