On Monday, February 17th at midnight with the weather permitting, Mt Vernon Place, NW, in front of the new Washington Convention Center, will be closed between 7th Street and 9th streets to traffic. This is done to permit the completion of road and streetscape works for the the Convention Center.
Detour signs, including Variable Message Boards, will divert outbound traffic on Massachusetts Avenue to southbound 11th Street and then to eastbound New York Avenue. Inbound New York traffic will be directed south on 7th Street to inbound New York Avenue (on the south side of Mt Vernon Square).
The intersection at the 7th Street should be open during the week of March 10th and Mt Vernon Place by the end of March. Closing Mt Vernon Place will shorten the work at this location by approximately 13 weeks.
DDOT and the Washington Convention Center has been working with local community associations, businesses and residents closely to minimize disruptions and to allow continued access. In particular, New York Avenue between 6th and 7th Streets and Massachusetts Ave between 9th and 10th Street will be open to local traffic.
