Public Invited to Evaluate South Capitol Street Gateway Alternatives

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation invites the public to the fourth workshop on improving transportation for the South Capitol Street/Frederick Douglass Bridge Gateway. The Department will present five specific options, including a new bridge, a new tunnel and a new interchange for Suitland Parkway at Martin Luther King Avenue, SE.

The meeting will be held at:

The church is wheelchair accessible and near the Waterfront metro station on the Green Line. The 70 bus stops nearby (the 71 and A9 also stop in the area during rush hour). Persons with special needs should call DDOT as soon as possible at (202) 671-4684.

The five options to be discussed emerged from the previous three community sessions organized in partnership with the US Congress, the Federal Department of Transportation, Mayor Williams' Anacostia Waterfront Initiative and neighborhood residents and businesses.

Residents and business-people from Sheridan, Historical Anacostia, Barry Farms, Buzzard Point, Navy Yard, Southwest Waterfront, Near Southeast and Capitol Hill are encouraged to attend, along with commuters, bicyclists and other stakeholders. The study area runs along South Capitol Street, from the US Capitol to Suitland Parkway and along New Jersey Avenue from the Capitol to M Street (SW/SE). The study includes transit, bicycle, pedestrian and other neighborhood and transportation improvements.
