District Snow Team Continues to Treat Roadways, Motorists Should Use Caution When Driving

Media Contact:  Karyn Le Blanc, 202-497-4572

(Washington, DC) The District Department of Transportation and Department of Public Works ("District Snow Team") continue to work throughout the current snow and ice storm treating elevated surfaces, major corridors and residential streets. Crews have been salting and putting down brine since early Tuesday morning. The most recent report from the National Weather Service indicates the storm is nearly moved out of the District area, however, some small showers of sleet and/or snow may still fall.

Motorists are advised to use caution when driving. The majority of the main roadways in the city are wet, but with temperatures still below freezing icing can occur. Residential streets that have not yet been driven on, while treated, may still have areas of  ice crusting on the surface. Drivers are advised to be patient and drive slowly when traversing city streets.

Temperatures are predicted to rise to above freezing between 9 and 10am this morning. The District has announced that DC Public Schools will open 2 hours late.
